  15. operation to remove his gallbladder and a benign tumor from his
  16. colon; in Rome. Biopsies taken before and during surgery showed
  17. the growth was not malignant; a pre-op CAT scan revealed stones
  18. in the gallbladder. Doctors said the Pope's distress had no
  19. connection to injuries sustained in 1981 when Mehmet Ali Agca
  20. shot the Pontiff in the abdomen during an assassination attempt.
